AI/ML Research Engineer / SME
Client: United States Army
Location: Remote
US Citizen
SCOPE
Develop comprehensive whitepapers and technical proposals for US Army AI/ML initiatives focused on large-scale data processing and analyst augmentation. Lead technical strategy development for government research programs spanning computer vision, natural language processing, edge computing, and algorithm development.
REQUIRED SKILLS
• Masters Degree in Computer Science, AI/ML, or related technical field with 8+ years applied research experience
• 10+ years of additional experience can be substituted in lieu of degree
• Demonstrated expertise across multiple AI/ML domains including:
• Experimental investigation and development of data analytic prototypes.
• Technologies that help analysts perceive and understand dynamic and unknown environments.
• Comprehensive models of real-world environments in which AI/ML entities facilitate course of action development, using intuition and improvisation characteristics in real-time, dynamic scenarios.
• Frameworks and tools for the creation of algorithms.
• Tailored algorithms to perform discrete tasks, particularly in the fields of computer vision and language.
• Innovative AI/ML computational environments.
• Labeling techniques to generate massive scale annotated data for supervised deep learning.
• Methods for edge computation that enable use of deep learning algorithms in constrained computational environments.
• Methods to evaluate and determine effectiveness of algorithmic approaches.
• Interfaces for display of, search of, and interaction with algorithmically derived metadata and tabular structured algorithmic output.
• Techniques, hardware, software, and tools for training, testing, and validating algorithms.
• Storage and indexing capabilities for local algorithmically produced data.
• Proven track record writing successful research proposals/papers
• Deep understanding of government data processing challenges and constraints
• Experience with both supervised and unsupervised learning approaches at scale
• Knowledge of edge deployment limitations and computational constraints in operational environments
• Strong technical writing ability - can translate complex algorithms into clear strategic recommendations
• Security clearance eligible (Secret minimum, TS/SCI preferred)
PREFERRED SKILLS
• Previous work with government agencies (DoD, IC, or national labs)
• Experience with data labeling and annotation pipeline development
• Knowledge of algorithm evaluation frameworks and validation methodologies
• Familiarity with government acquisition processes and technical evaluation criteria
• Background in real-time systems or operational AI deployment
TASKS
• Research and analyze current state-of-the-art in AI/ML technologies relevant to government data processing needs
• Write technical whitepapers outlining proposed research approaches, methodologies, and expected outcomes
• Develop cost estimates and technical risk assessments for proposed research programs
• Collaborate with subject matter experts to validate technical approaches and assumptions
• Present findings and recommendations to government stakeholders and technical review panels
• Monitor emerging AI/ML research trends and assess applicability to government use cases
• Support proposal defense and technical discussions during government evaluation processes
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $45.00 - $50.00 per hour
