AI Architect / Chief AI Architect (Teaching & Learning) - Center for Education Innovation

This is a newly established role to advance the strategic and responsible use of artificial intelligence in teaching and learning across the University.
The appointee will play a leading role in shaping, designing and implementing AI-enabled approaches that enhance student learning, strengthen teaching effectiveness, and support innovation in curriculum, assessment and academic support.
Reporting to the Director of the Center for Education Innovation (CEI), the successful candidate will serve as the University's lead specialist on the technical architecture, integration and responsible deployment of AI systems for teaching and learning.
The appointee will work closely with CEI, the Information Technology Services Office (ITSO), academic units and other central offices to translate pedagogical priorities into scalable AI-enabled solutions that are aligned with University-wide IT policies, standards and infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
The appointee will be responsible for:
• Leading the design and implementation of a University-wide AI architecture for teaching and learning, including AI-enabled assessment, feedback, tutoring, learning analytics and student support tools
• Evaluating, prototyping and integrating AI tools and platforms into the University's teaching and learning ecosystem, including learning management and related academic technology environments
• Developing technical standards, workflows and governance mechanisms to support the effective, secure and scalable use of AI in academic settings
• Working closely with CEI and academic units to identify priority use cases in teaching and learning and translate these into practical technical solutions
• Supporting the design and rollout of pilot projects on AI-enhanced teaching, learning and assessment, and evaluating their effectiveness through evidence-based approaches
• Advising on responsible AI use in areas such as academic integrity, data privacy, transparency, human oversight and quality assurance
• Providing technical guidance and consultation to faculty and teaching teams on the adoption of AI tools for course design, assessment and student learning support
• Performing any other duties as assigned by the Director of CEI or his/her delegate
Requirements
Applicants should have:
• A postgraduate degree, preferably a higher degree, in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Educational Technology, Learning Sciences or a related discipline
• Substantial relevant post-qualification experience in the design, development and deployment of AI or machine learning systems, preferably in higher education, edtech, research, or another complex institutional environment
• Strong hands-on technical expertise in AI system architecture, model integration, data workflows and deployment practices
• Solid programming experience, preferably in Python and relevant AI or machine learning frameworks and tools
• Experience with digital learning platforms, learning management systems, cloud-based environments, APIs and system integration would be an advantage
• Good understanding of teaching and learning contexts in higher education, including curriculum, assessment and academic quality considerations
• Sound knowledge of responsible AI practices, including issues related to ethics, privacy, bias, transparency and governance
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal and communication skills
• The ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate effectively with both academic and professional staff
• Excellent command of written and spoken English; proficiency in Chinese would be an advantage
Remuneration and Conditions of Service
Salary is highly competitive and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of two years, and is renewable subject to performance, mutual agreement, and funding availability.
The appointment is expected to commence as soon as possible.
