AI & Automation Engineering Intern

Job description VC5 is growing its AI & Automation department, and we’re looking for a driven, curious intern to join our engineering team.

You’ll work directly alongside our AI & Automation Engineer, embedded in every aspect of the work — from design meetings to deployment.

You’ll be building real systems, solving real problems, and learning how AI and automation transform business operations from the inside.

O...ur AI department is a startup-style operation within an established company, which means you’ll have a front-row seat to how technical strategy gets shaped, how decisions are made, and how to ship solutions that matter.

You’ll start with foundational tasks and ramp into more complex projects as you grow.

What You’ll Do

• Assist in building and maintaining automation workflows and AI-driven tools using a mix of visual automation platforms and code (Python, JavaScript, CLI)

• Help develop, test, and deploy AI-powered systems that solve real business problems

• Support data pipeline work — connecting platforms via APIs, validating data accuracy, and monitoring automated processes

• Contribute to prompt engineering and tuning AI model outputs for production use cases

• Participate in all team meetings, standups, and planning sessions to learn the full product lifecycle

• Research emerging AI tools, models, and frameworks to identify opportunities and share findings with the team

• Document workflows, processes, and system architecture as the department scales

• Work across Linux (Ubuntu) and macOS environments using both GUI-based automation tools and command-line workflows

Must-Haves:

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science or a related field

• Foundational understanding of programming (Python and/or JavaScript preferred)

• Familiarity with APIs and how web services communicate (REST, JSON, webhooks)

• Strong problem-solving instincts and a willingness to figure things out independently

• Genuine curiosity about AI, large language models, and automation

• Solid written and verbal communication skills

Nice-to-Haves:

• Experience with any workflow automation platform (Zapier, Make, or similar)

• Exposure to AI/LLM tools or basic prompt engineering

• Interest in or coursework related to databases, data modeling, or working with large datasets

• Comfort working in a terminal/command-line environment

• Experience with Git/version control

• Personal projects or portfolio demonstrating initiative (side projects, hackathons, open-source contributions)
