The University of Bedfordshire’s Luton AI initiative is seeking a practical, people-focused AI Workflow and Automation Officer to help businesses and partner organisations turn AI opportunities into tangible operational improvements.

This hands-on, business-facing position supports externally funded applied AI programmes, combining organisational discovery and workflow analysis with the selection and implementation of appropriate AI and automation technologies.

About Luton AI

Luton AI brings together the University of Bedfordshire’s researchers, technologists and industry partners to put AI to work in real organisations.

Since 2024, we have engaged more than 600 organisations and undertaken over 60 bespoke AI projects, working across aviation, business, public services and the wider regional economy.

Our work spans AI skills and adoption, intelligent automation, applied research and responsible governance. You will join a collaborative, growing team where you can see the difference your work makes, from the first conversation with a business through to a working solution.

About the role

You will work directly with organisations to identify where AI can create value, establish how success will be measured, and implement straightforward solutions using established AI, productivity and low-code/no-code platforms.

You will help teams adopt new ways of working and demonstrate the benefits achieved.

You will be supported by Luton AI academic and technical specialists for complex software development, advanced integrations and specialist governance requirements.

What you will be doing

  • Discovery, opportunities and ROI: Run stakeholder discussions and workshops to understand business challenges, identify and prioritise AI opportunities, establish baseline measures and agree KPIs and expected return on investment (ROI).
  • Workflow analysis: Map current processes, identify bottlenecks, duplication and repetitive tasks, and translate operational requirements into practical improvement opportunities.
  • AI tool selection: Evaluate and recommend suitable generative AI, productivity and automation tools, considering value, usability, cost, data protection, security, integration and organisational readiness.
  • Automation implementation: Configure and deploy straightforward AI assistants and low-code/no-code automations; support piloting, testing, staff training and adoption, and measure outcomes against agreed KPIs.

Across these activities you will promote responsible AI, maintain clear project documentation and work with the wider Luton AI team on specialist technical requirements.

About you

We are looking for someone who can connect business needs with practical technology solutions. You will have:

  • A degree, equivalent qualification or relevant professional experience in business, computing, information systems, digital technology or a related field.
  • Experience analysing workflows or business problems, identifying opportunities for improvement, and engaging stakeholders to define needs and outcomes.
  • Practical knowledge of digital, AI or automation tools and a sound understanding of the opportunities and limitations of generative AI.
  • The ability to turn requirements into practical solutions, communicate with non-technical users, and deliver demonstrations or training.

Strong analytical, organisational and communication skills, with a commitment to responsible AI and measurable impact.

Experience with Microsoft 365, Copilot, Power Automate, Copilot Studio or comparable low-code/no-code platforms is essential.

You do not need to be a software engineer.

For an informal discussion, please contact Dr Edward Braund, Head of School and Director of Luton AI, on 01582 743209 or edward.braund@beds.ac.uk.

Interviews will be held week commencing 30 November 2026.
