We are expanding platforms relied upon by thousands of students and teams:

• TimeBack: An educational platform driving Alpha School's 2-hour learning model (99th percentile test outcomes).

• Incept: A content generation platform producing all personalized educational materials for multiple learning applications deployed at Alpha School.

• Crossover: An AI-driven hiring platform handling tens of thousands of applicants monthly, staffing educational institutions and enterprises worldwide.

You will assume ownership of one platform and dedicate the majority of your time to constructing the most complex components of the codebase with a small team (3-5 experienced engineers, no junior contributors).

The architectural choices you make will dictate whether other teams can build new applications quickly, integrate seamlessly, and deliver value to students.

Sound decisions unlock substantial leverage.

Poor ones generate integration failures and erode velocity across the organization.

You are responsible for both building and operating what you architect.

You define quality standards and technical patterns for your platform.

Our process is specification-driven: you design first, then implement—always plan before execution.

Expect high autonomy, no committee structures, no approval boards.

This is a compact, tightly coordinated team where you own the outcomes of your work.

What You Will Be Doing

• Technical Leadership: Define strategic architecture and set technical standards for the team.

• AI Leadership: Champion new AI-driven workflows and produce impactful operational playbooks.

• Implementation: Develop the intricate, mission-critical sections of the codebase with your team.

• Quality Reviews: Validate adherence to established patterns and uphold quality benchmarks.

What You Won’t Be Doing

• Acting as an architect detached from implementation work

• Spending excessive time in meetings

• Managing personnel (this role centers on technical leadership, not people management)

• Handling legacy system maintenance or internal IT infrastructure

Basic Requirements

Senior Software Architect key responsibilities

• A minimum of 5 years in professional software development, building software products

• A minimum of 3 years serving as either a lead engineer (conducting code reviews) or architect (driving core technical decisions)

• Proven experience with platform-level products where external teams integrated with your APIs

• Active and deep involvement with AI tools, continually experimenting and exploring new possibilities

Working with us

This is a full-time (40 hours per week), long-term position.

The position is immediately available and requires entering into an independent contractor agreement with Crossover as a Contractor of Record.

The compensation level for this role is $100 USD/hour, which equates to $200,000 USD/year assuming 40 hours per week and 50 weeks per year.

The payment period is weekly.
