Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (PhD or Master's) in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or equivalent experience
  • 10 years of progressively responsible experience leading software, AI, and/or data science teams
  • 5 years experience designing and delivering predictive and generative AI systems
  • Experience operating production services, including customer-facing APIs and model-as-a-service platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to establish repeatable delivery processes and manage complex cross-functional dependencies; proven track record driving organizational change
  • Demonstrated experience organizing, developing, and recruiting data scientists, engineers, and MLOps staff
  • Strong financial and operational acumen in managing budgets, headcount, and vendor contracts, and cloud cost controls
  • Ability to translate business priorities into operational execution and align technical teams around measurable outcomes

Responsibilities

  • This platform supports both MCG's internal product suite and external independent software vendors (ISVs) who rely on Synapse for clinical reasoning capabilities
  • The VP AI Platforms owns the platform strategy and operating model that supports running Synapse as a commercial-grade service, that increases adoption, reduces delivery friction, ensures reliability and scalability, drives cost-to-serve efficiency, and enables high-quality production support
  • This executive excels at organizing teams, managing delivery processes, and operating AI systems as a service
  • Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, this leader ensures that the Synapse platform meets commercial expectations for performance and availability while maintaining strong alignment with product, business, and customer outcomes
  • Own the full lifecycle of MCG's Synapse platform-from planning through design, implementation, deployment, and sustained operation
  • Lead Data Science, Data Engineering, and MLOps teams in executing predictable delivery of production-grade AI services that support both internal and partner products
  • Define and drive a multi-year platform roadmap and target architecture that enables self-service onboarding, reusable components, and scalable delivery patterns leveraging predictive, generative, and agentic AI as appropriate
  • Develop detailed execution plans with clear milestones, capacity allocation, and delivery tracking aligned to MCG's business priorities
  • Build and optimize processes for monitoring, incident management, and continuous uptime improvement, ensuring 24/7 reliability of the Synapse platform
  • Establish and operate a modern LLMOps stack: prompt and configuration management, model routing, caching, A/B testing, evaluation harnesses, red-teaming, and continuous quality monitoring for Gen AI outputs (accuracy, hallucination rate, safety, and drift)
  • Deliver core Gen AI platform capabilities including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), embeddings and semantic search, vector database operations, knowledge ingestion pipelines, and grounded response generation
  • Enable agentic workflows for complex tasks by implementing secure tool/function calling, permissioned action execution, workflow orchestration, memory/state management, and robust guardrails for clinical and operational safety
  • Oversee model versioning, validation, and controlled releases to maintain model quality, reproducibility, and compliance
  • Ensure strong production support and tier 4 response capabilities for live AI services used by internal and partner customers
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Commercial, and Engineering leaders to define and deliver roadmap objectives and partner integrations
  • Establish a metrics-driven culture with rigorous reporting on throughput, cycle time, model accuracy, and service reliability
  • Develop and mentor a high-performing technical organization, emphasizing execution discipline, system ownership, and operational excellence
  • Coordinate workforce planning, budget management, and vendor partnerships to optimize delivery velocity and scalability
  • Travel expected 3-4 times per year for company-sponsored events

The Vice President of AI Platforms is responsible for the end-to-end delivery, operation, and continuous improvement of MCG's commercial AI services, Synapse.

This platform supports both MCG's internal product suite and external independent software vendors (ISVs) who rely on Synapse for clinical reasoning capabilities.

This role combines commercial-grade operational leadership with platform modernization.

You Will:
