Demonstrator- Faculty of Informatics & Computer Science- Artificial Intelligence

Job Purpose

The position of a Demonstrator provides support to module leaders in the delivery and assessment of their modules and assists with laboratory (where appropriate) and paperwork. They are also expected to pursue their graduate studies leading to an MSc. degree which enables them to embark on an academic teaching and research career.

The Demonstrator is recognised as an integral member of the faculty/departmental team and actively participates in management processes, including staff development, performance reviews, and adherence to the University s policies and regulations.

Job Responsibilities

• Report to the assigned line manager or module leader.

• Assist module leaders in module management and related tasks.

• Attend lectures delivered by the module leader to ensure alignment with teaching goals.

• Coordinate or procure materials required for classes.

• Teach and supervise students during tutorials and, where appropriate, practical and laboratory sessions under regular monitoring.

• To prepare, under supervision, teaching materials, e.g., for practical sessions (lab manuals, PowerPoint presentations) and different types of academic materials (Photocopying and distributing).

• Monitor student attendance as required.

• Provide academic assistance during office hours and respond to student queries.

• Assist in collecting assignments and other assessment submissions.

• Organise teaching observations for supervisors or module leaders and meet with them to receive feedback on teaching performance

• Assist with conferences as deemed appropriate.

• Effectively utilize and develop e-learning tools to enhance teaching and learning

• Use and develop e-learning effectively to support learning and teaching.

• Contribute to marketing, recruitment, and overall development efforts for the University.

• Participate in relevant staff development and training programs.

• Complete postgraduate studies (MSc) within the prescribed time limits as outlined by applicable laws and regulations.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Department.

Job Requirements

Educational Qualifications

Essential:

• A standing of Excellent with Honours in graduate degree.

Desirable:

• Degree from a university in which English is the language of teaching.
