Assistant Professor, Public AI and Cultural Institutions

The University of Toronto invites applications for a tenure-stream position in the Department of Arts, Culture and Media at the University of Toronto Scarborough. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and will begin on July 1, 2024.

Responsibilities

• Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of Public AI and Cultural Institutions.

• Conduct research in the field of Public AI and its implications for cultural institutions.

• Supervise graduate students and contribute to the academic community.

• Engage with community partners and stakeholders in the cultural sector.

Required Qualifications

• A PhD in a relevant field (e.g., Media Studies, Cultural Studies, Information Studies, or a related discipline) by the time of appointment.

• A strong record of research and publication in the area of Public AI and Cultural Institutions.

• Evidence of teaching excellence at the university level.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with cultural institutions or community organizations.

• A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in teaching and research.

• The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the academic life of the department and the university, including participation in committees and outreach activities.
